Edmund Lazarus is a dedicated professional with many years of experience in the private equity industry. He studied at the University of Oxford earning his first class masters degree in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics in 1989. Edmund began his career as a strategy consultant at Bain, then as an M&A and corporate finance adviser at S.G. Warburg and Merrill Lynch before joining the private equity industry as a member of the global investment committee of Morgan Stanley Private Equity.
In 2002, Edmund Lazarus was a founder of Bregal Capital becoming Managing Partner in 2009. He led 15 investments and approximately £900 million of investment at cost during his tenure at the firm. With the full support of Bregal, Edmund spun out from Bregal Capital to form his own firm, EMK Capital. EMK raised its first £575m fund rapidly in 2017 from some of the most experienced and prestigious limited partner investors in the private equity industry.
Standing for Enterprise, Management, and Knowledge, EMK Capital strives to deliver growth for its investee companies through entrepreneurial decision making. EMK is committed to investment in portfolio company management and to developing its own deep knowledge of the sub-sectors targeted for investment. Edmund Lazarus and his company firmly believe in responsible investing achieving high standards of environmental, social and governance (ESG) across their entire portfolio. EMK believes that “improving ESG performance in our portfolio companies will lead to enhanced value creation by helping to capture opportunity and avoid risks that occur at the intersection of sustainability and commerciality.” Edmund believes that EMK stands out from other mid-market competitors because of sustained high investment returns driven by growth. Over 27 track record investments (deploying £1.2 billion at cost), EMK’s team has delivered four times multiple of cost with performance primarily driven driven by growth. Personally, Edmund enjoys “deep participation in developing the strategies, actions, and leadership development needed to deliver the growth rates we target.”
